Introduction

Electrocardiogram (ECG) is an important approach for monitoring the condition of heart, and the goal of this project is to optimize size and location of textile electrodes for ECG sensing.

The following is the integration of buttons into electrodes (knitted fabric by silver coated yarns):

Measurement positions:

 

I. Size test

ECG of conventional metal electrodes:

ECG of 2cm x 2cm textile electrodes:

ECG of 3cm x 3cm textile electrodes:

ECG of 4cm x 4cm textile electrodes:

 

Evaluation standard:

 

The following table is the result analysis of size test, and 3cm x 3cm is selected as the optimum size.

 

II. Position test

The following table is the result analysis of location test, and the best ECG signal was acquired from position a, which was under the left collarbone.

 

Further works

1. To establish a more stable electrode-skin connect, in order to reduce the noises.

2. Compare the electrodes made by different materials, such as pure silver yarns and silver coated yarns blended with acrylics.
